Wind, water, extreme temperatures, and underground salt movement are responsible for the sculptured rock scenery of Arches National Park, which boasts the greatest density of natural arches in the world (about 2,000). Arches is located in a high desert region that is subject to a wide ranges of temperatures and climatic conditions. Summers bring temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, with low humidity. During the winter the area is subjected to light snows and temperatures below freezing. Wind and sand storms are common as well as great thunderstorms.
