A May 1914 eruption began a 7-year cycle of recurring volcanic outbursts that profoundly altered the northern California landscape. Dominated by Mount Lassen, covered by great lava flows, jagged craters, steaming sulfur vents, and boiling mud pots are among the park's wondrous features.
