High
among the snow-covered peaks and ridges of Colorado lies Rocky
Mountain National Park. A full one-third of the park is above tree
line, and here the alpine tundra dominates the park's mountain
landscape. The peaks rise high above the pristine sub-alpine valleys,
glacier blue lakes and meadows of wild flowers providing a home
to a full spectrum of wildlife, including the park's symbol-the
bighorn sheep. The park's changing climate zones crest a show from
the mountain peaks down to the foothills with open stands of Ponderosa
Pine, Juniper, Douglas-fir, Blue Spruce, and the Lodgepole Pine.
Openings in these forests produce wild flower gardens of beauty
where the Colorado columbine reigns.
